Before starting the production of Finding Nemo, the production crew had to take a SCUBA certification course at the great barrier reef, visit aquariums, and attend lectures on marine life.
This is not Nemo's first appearance in a film. He is first seen in Monsters Inc as a stuffed animal on Boo's bed.

 Finding Nemo also features many characters that appear in upcoming films. A boy is reading a Mr. Incredible comic book (The Incredibles) and Luigi drives by the window (Cars).

 Animators studied dogs' facial expressions, paying particular attention to the eyes, to animate the expression of the fish.

The dentist's diploma is from Pixar University School of Dentistry. 

The tiki heads in the fishtank are modeled after some of the team's animators.

Bruce is named ofter the mechanical shark in "Jaws".

Crush is voiced by the writer and director Andrew Stanton.

Nemo means "no name" in Latin.

The number A113 on the diver's camera is a reference to the room at CalArts that the producers all studied in. 

As Dory and Marlin are blasted out of the whale's blowhole, you can see Mike Wazowski, the little green, one eyed monster from Disney's previous film, Monsters Inc, swimming among the bubbles.

In every Disney movie, there are several hidden Mickeys throughout the film. Here are some that appear in Finding Nemo:
